Refreshing Discovery: When Baking Becomes a Launchpad for Youth with EPIDE
Sometimes, the most inspiring synergies come from unexpected industry events. During the grand opening of the Feuillette bakery in Meyzieu, the founder of Baguette Academy crossed paths with Nicolas Dupont, Head of Professional Integration and Training at EPIDE Meyzieu.
This conversation sparked a fascinating brainstorm about knowledge sharing, our industry’s craft, and guiding young talent full of potential.
EPIDE: A Supportive and Rigorous Framework to Bounce Back
For those unfamiliar with the program, EPIDE (National Agency for Employment Integration) is a unique French initiative spanning 20 centers across the country. Created by former ministers Jean-Louis Borloo and Michèle Alliot-Marie, its mission is to help young volunteers aged 17 to 25 who are facing hardships find long-term employment or training.
The model is built on a structured framework inspired by military principles, combining kindness with high expectations.
The Meyzieu Center at a Glance:
· 210 young adults welcomed from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (AURA) region.
· A personalized 12-month program with mandatory boarding school residency.
· An exceptional staffing ratio: 1 supervisor for every 3 volunteers.
On a daily basis, these young individuals benefit from academic refreshers, work toward their driver’s licenses, engage in community service, and complete corporate internships to explore new career paths.
An Inspiring Visit for the Baguette Academy Team
Eager to see this ecosystem in action, the Baguette Academy pedagogical team had the privilege of touring the Meyzieu center alongside Mr. Payan.
“We were deeply moved by the incredible dedication of the center’s staff and the core values of solidarity and discipline that drive this structure.”
Baguette Academy’s mission has always been to drive attractiveness and knowledge sharing in the baking and pastry arts. These are careers built on passion and craftsmanship—fields that have so much to offer young people looking for a bright future.
Building Agile Bridges into the Baking Industry
In a market facing severe staffing shortages and hiring challenges, it felt natural to brainstorm practical ways to spark interest in our craft.
Our goal? To design non-academic, engaging, and ultra-short introductory modules to baking and pastry. These will provide volunteers with simple tools to boost their confidence before starting an internship or to solidify their choice to pursue a career in this industry.
A Digital, Agile, and Personalized Solution
We are currently designing an innovative approach: providing on-demand access (requested by the youth and approved by their Integration Counselor) to a selection of micro-learning online programs.
Several key tracks are being developed:
· Hygiene and Best Practices (kitchen lab essentials).
· Sales Techniques tailored for bakeries.
· Introduction to the BVP Sector (Bakery-Viennoiserie-Pastry) to understand the ecosystem.
This flexible approach will adapt perfectly to the pace and expectations of each volunteer.
Let’s Build the Future Together!
We are actively moving forward with EPIDE Meyzieu to deliver a cohesive, practical, and tailored solution for these inspiring young adults.
