“Maths et ma Toque”: When Calculus Meets the Kitchen
At Baguette Academy, we firmly believe that cooking and baking are wonderful ways to share moments, but also fantastic educational tools. That is why we fell in love with “Maths et ma Toque” (Math and my Chef’s Hat), an educational, screen-free board game that revolutionizes learning math through the world of gastronomy.
Recently awarded at the Concours Lépine, this game shares a vision close to our hearts: bringing meaning to practice to better grasp theory.
Meaning Over Abstraction
Who hasn’t heard a student or an apprentice ask: “But what am I ever going to use this for in real life?”
The game was designed specifically to answer that question. The core idea is simple yet powerful: bringing meaning back into learning. Instead of working through operations abstractly in a notebook, players step into the shoes of chefs. Their mission? To serve recipes to guests by adjusting ingredient quantities based on the number of diners.
A concrete example:
The famous “rule of three” (or proportionality) becomes much easier to digest when you have to figure out how many kiwis are needed for a fruit salad for 3 people, knowing that you need 2 kiwis for 4 people. You manipulate the concepts, visualize them, and it clicks!
An Evolving Game, From the Living Room to Vocational Schools
One of the greatest strengths of Maths et ma Toque is its adaptability. The game allows players to practice a wide range of mathematical concepts depending on their level:
· Counting and addition for the youngest players
· Multiplication and division

Originally designed for families or teachers in schools, the game has now entered the world of professional training. It is being adopted by CFAs (Vocational Training Centers) to support future bakers and chefs in mastering their recipe ratios.

This wonderful recognition propelled the game into the spotlight… so much so that it is currently sold out.

Inspired by Judith’s entrepreneurial drive, Emmanuel decided to use his network and experience as an entrepreneur to help scale her promising structure.
